Why you should never travel with Wilko – Part 2

Richard Muldoon recently posted about the dangers of traveling with Ian Wilkinson. And its true what he said about never turning his back on Ian… especially in the snow. Richard had the eyes of a hawk that could spot a prowling tiger in the thick.

But there was one moment where he let his guard down! Sorry Richard!:P

Melissa and Mihali, Hillstone St Lucia

What a crazy week! Queensland Wedding Photographer of the Year runner up, interstate guests and a mysterious stomach bug that hung around for days… we figure its time to drop a gear and relax a little, so we’re about to treat ourselves to a little street photography in Melbourne! Can’t wait!

But before we go, its about time we told you about Melissa and Mihali…

If you like a Greek wedding then a seat at one of Melissa & Mihali’s table’s at Hillstone St Lucia would have been the hottest ticket in town!

These guys had it all!

Swarms of people, hotted up cars, a Nona that happens to be an amazing cook, an exquisite Darb dress, and a whole lot of heart!

The speeches – wow can these guys talk… and straight from the heart. I wanted to laugh, cry and hug someone!

And then the partying… boy these guys know how to throw a party! We left at about 10pm, but we left knowing these guys were going to dance all night and that some uncle or aunt would probably end up inviting everyone back to their place for more Zorba dancing and celebratory shots!

Melissa and Mihali – we salute you and thank you for making us feel like your guests. Like your friends. We had the best time!

Queensland Wedding Photographer of the Year – Runner Up

“… and the runner up – Andrew Kwintowski”.

I could barely hear it, let alone believe it…. but sure as gold, those were the words Jan Ramsay (President of AIPP Queensland) said right after announcing Jonas Peterson as the Queensland Wedding Photographer of the Year.

There’s an old addage about how nobody remembers the second place getter right? Well I’m making it my mission to remember all of the second place getters that night – I’m going to list them below for everyone to see because its such a big effort to do well at this level, and the difference between first and second might only be a handful of points. In fact, I think everyone who entered should be commended for allowing their work to be picked apart and scrutinised in front of the panel of 5 highly esteemed judges! That takes a lot of guts!

….

In case you don’t know, last weekend we had the annual Qld Professional Photography Awards Competition and Dinner. In terms of Queensland’s photographic industry – its basically the biggest calendar weekend of the year.

Last year, Alex and I entered and documented the occasion in our post entitled:  Silvers at Qld Professional Photographer Awards. We were stoked – absolutely over the moon!

But the last 12 months have been huge for us with Felix being born… we basically had to re-prioritise and re-organise our lives. Running a business was tough with one little one, let alone with two! Don’t get me wrong – its a choice we’ve made and we could not be happier – our lives could not be richer without our two little bundles of joy!

This year, coming runner up to Jonas Peterson, is just such an honour in itself and really means a lot to us.

Above all it means we’re on the right track!

Overall, we scored a Gold, 3 silver distinctions and 3 silvers, which is A LOT better than last year. And while we would absolutely love to share with you all the winning prints, I’ll just show one and keep the others under wraps until May when the National competition is finished and all can be revealed!

And one last thing I wanted to say… we absolutely, positively, fiendishly love Photography and are sooo excited to be a part of such an amazing community of talented photographers here in Queensland!

Life is sweet!
