Welcome to the World, little Man!

We don’t believe in old wives tales. Especially when it comes to babies.

You know the ones where if your belly is high, its definitely a boy, or if you dream a girl – then its going to be a girl, or that little children know the sex of your baby…  one thing, however, we were absolutely certain about was that babies are more prone to come during a full moon. We had the evidence – Kaya, herself, was born on a full moon. A day early.

When baby didn’t come on the 14th, we “knew” it would come on the 16th with the full moon.

It didn’t happen.

It didn’t happen on the 17th, 18th… 20th or the 21st either! I mean – it was a pretty damn cold week, but 8 days in the oven…. are you kidding me???

On the 22nd, when I’d finally put head to pillow around 1 am, after having worked on the latest wedding selection, I closed my eyes for what felt like a few moments… I awoke to Alex’s light tapping on my shoulder around 2 am. “Its happening tonight” she said with such a calm conviction that I knew “it” was.

We’d organised for Alex’s parents to be ready to come and spend the night at our house so as not to wake Kaya if Alex happened to fall into labour in the middle of the night. Her  dad was here in 15 minutes.

We were at the hospital by half past 3… and baby was definitely in a hurry to join us on the otherside… born an hour and a half later.

I wont go into details, but let me say, Alex is an incredible woman.

I think all mothers are.

What a remarkable thing to go through to bring a new little life into this world. I felt a swell of emotion and maybe a slight tear of joy (or maybe two) as I shakily announced to Alex… “Its a boy Alex… its a boy”.

Since Alex fell pregnant I’d been wondering whether it would be possible to share the love we have for Kaya with another little person. I was actually scared that it wouldn’t be possible… but now it feels as if the love we have for our children has been doubled, not halved. Its an amazing thing to feel a stronger bond where you couldn’t imagine it could get any stronger…

I guess its all just a part of the miracle of life.
